For record shops
List a record, and the people who want it are told.
Not a browse-and-hope listing site. Collectors keep a wishlist in VinylSonar. The moment you list a pressing, every collector within range who has been hunting it gets a notification that day — with your price and your shop's name on it.
No commission. Ever.
Not a percentage of your sales, not a listing fee, not now and not later. Discogs takes around 9% and eBay more. We take nothing — we are not a middleman on your sales. We would rather they happen over your counter and have nothing to do with us.
Let's get the obvious question out of the way
This is not another Discogs. Discogs exists, it is the best catalogue there is, and we read from it rather than try to replace it. If all we offered was a second place to list the same records, you would be right to ignore us.
What does not exist is a way for a collector a few streets from you to find out you have the pressing they have been chasing for two years. That is the thing we are building — and it only works if real shops are on it.
What your shop actually gets
Wishlist alerts, pointed at you
A collector saves a pressing they want, with a maximum price and a distance. When your listing matches, they are notified — by name, the same day.
Followed-artist alerts
Collectors follow artists. When you list a record by one of them that the collector does not already own, they hear about it. Their gaps, your shelves.
Unlimited listings
A free personal account can hold three listings. A Store account has no limit — put the whole shop up.
Promotional deals
Only Store accounts can post deals. Sale on Friday, a crate just in, 20% off jazz — it goes to collectors browsing your area.
Your Discogs inventory, in one step
Connect your Discogs storefront and it reads the whole thing, however large. It shows you exactly what differs between the two sides and asks before it changes anything on Discogs.
Or a spreadsheet
Upload a CSV or Excel export. It shows you what it understood from your columns before it writes a single record, because undoing an import is far more work than checking a screen.
Priced by pressing, not by album
Year, country, label, catalogue number. A 1973 UK first press is not a 2015 reissue, and the price reflects that. Media and sleeve condition are graded separately.
Your own storefront
A page that is yours, shown to collectors browsing your area, in the currency you trade in.
A moderated community
Public rooms and direct messages, with every message screened before it is delivered. Your shop is present in the conversation, not just in a search index.
Nothing here asks you to ship
If somebody finds a record on your shelf, that is between you and them, over your counter. Whether you post anything to anyone is entirely your business — and if the answer is never, everything above still works exactly the same.
Founding shops: six months free
No cost, no card, no obligation when it ends. If you were sent an invite code:
- Create an account at web.vinylsonar.ca — Google sign-in is fine, and everything except the camera scan runs in a browser today.
- Paste the code into the Invite code box on the sign-in screen. It applies as the account is created.
- Connect Discogs or upload your stock file, and you are listed.
Works whether or not you already have an account — the code is applied as you sign in. Already signed in and nothing happened? Open Profile and tap Have a store code?
A straight swap, if you want it
There are printable counter cards and a poster for the shop, plus a small badge for your website. Put the badge up and we will list your shop on our partners page with a link straight to your own website — not to a page inside our app.
No fee, no exclusivity, and either of us can stop whenever we like.
Where this honestly stands
VinylSonar is new and small, built by one person in Ontario. There are not thousands of collectors on it yet — there are not thousands of anything yet. A marketplace with no record shops is just an idea, which is exactly why founding shops get six months free and a direct line to the person building it.
What we can promise is that what you tell us shapes what gets built next. Several things in the app exist because a shop owner said they were missing.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What does it cost? | Six months free for founding shops, then a flat subscription. Never a commission. |
| Do I have to ship? | No. Whether you post records is entirely your business. |
| Do I have to leave Discogs? | No. We read from Discogs and sync your storefront; keep doing exactly what you already do. |
| Will it change my Discogs listings? | Only if you tell it to. It shows you the differences and asks first. |
| What currency? | Yours. Prices come in whatever currency they were already in. |
| Who sees my shop? | Collectors browsing your area, and anyone whose wishlist or followed artists match your stock. |
